Roots & Shoots is a great program! You have to be motivated if you really want to help, because all the people here are
enthusiastic; you have to believe that you will make a difference!
For Roots & Shoots, first of all, we have to use the three steps to make a difference: Get knowledge (about what we're
going to work on), then compassion (care about what your doing), and then take action (make a plan and DO IT!); and In every
meeting, we discuss who we help (people, animals, and the environment), and the three steps we use to make a difference. Can
you believe it, three easy steps to make a difference; but only easy if you're motivated!
Roots & Shoots does not only help others, but you. All of the kids have learned a lot once joining Roots & Shoots;
even their parents coming to the meeting with them, have learned something. Our program is very productive, and we've raised
over a lot and gathered goods for all those who need it. Our meetings are lots of fun, and the big events we hold are spectacular!
We hope by holding this program, we will make a big difference in our community, but mostly, I think we already have!
A Proven Model for Engaging Youth

Our model is based on the belief that every individual matters, every individual has a role to play and every individual makes
a difference. This core idea is at the root of Dr. Jane Goodall's philosophy.
Our simple yet holistic approach maximizes youth engagement because projects are driven by the interests and abilities
of the participants. Kids are encouraged to develop projects that matter to them. The type of projects vary, based on age,
interests and community needs, but the common thread across Roots & Shoots service projects is our methodology:
Knowledge: The basis of responsible action. The more a child knows about the community, the better he or she can decide
what needs to be done to improve issues of concern.
Compassion: The engine of your project. Compassion, concern and a desire to make a difference energizes young people to
tackle problems they see.
Action: The result of learning and planning. Youth-led groups take action through service projects that show care and
concern for people, animals and the environment.
While our easy-to-implement model increases youth engagement, our growing global network reinforces it. Roots & Shoots
participants become connected to a much larger group of people committed to making a difference in the world around them.
